Kumbheswor temple


It is one of oldest temple in Patan. After Patan Durbar Square, This is second popular place tourist would like to go in Patan. The Kumbheswor temple is pagoda style temple, made by King Jayasthiti Malla in the 13th century. It is a five storied temple. In Nepal, there are only two 5 storied temple. One is at Basantapur, named Nyatapol temple and second one is this.

Inside the temple area, there are many famous gods and goddess. Maa Bagalamukhi temple is one of them. It is very popular among the Hindus. Every Thursdays, lots of devotees visit this place to worship Bagalamukhi. It is believed that if you continuously reach here for 7 consecutive Thursdays and worship Bagalamukhi, your wish is fulfilled. So this place is very crowded on Thursdays from early morning to late night.

Once a year, there takes place a ritual bath in the pond inside the temple compound and the water source of the pond is believed to be glacier lake Gosaikunda, on the auspicious day of Janai Purnima. On the day there took place a huge mela.
